Her birth name is Loretta Webb, and she was born in Kentucky in the year 1932. She is the second child to her parents Clara Marie and Melvin Theodore Webb. She has seven siblings namely Melvin Webb Jr., Peggy Sue Wright, Herman, Betty Ruth, Willie Lee Webb, Brenda Gail, and Donald Ray.
Her father died at the age of fifty-two due to a disease common with coal workers. She got married to Oliver in 1926, and the moved to Washington State. Oliver bought Loretta a guitar and then she taught herself how to play. Her husband encouraged her, and eventually, she improved her skills in playing and became the best.
