CL was born on February 26, 1991, in Seoul, South Korea to Lee Ki Jin, a physics professor, and Hong Yu-ra. At the age of 13, she traveled to Paris alone for her studies and has also spent her childhood in various cities such as Tsukuba and Tokyo. When she was 15, she got an opportunity to attend an audition with YG Entertainment. She was trained by the YG Entertainment and got a chance to record for the song “Intro(Hot Issue)” with the band Big Bang in 2007.
