Linus Torvalds was born on 28th December in the year 1969 in Helsinki, Finland. He was taken to his parents who were both journalist and whose names are Anna and Nils Torvalds. His family background is educational with which he is a grandson of Ole Torvalds who was a poet and a journalist.
Linus studied at the University of Helsinki in the year 1988 to the year 1996 from which he graduated with a master’s degree of Computer Science. While in the university, he was among the members of the NODES research group.
In this early period, while he was still taking his studies, he joined the Finnish Army through which he attended 11-months training programme which interrupted his studies as they were compulsory for anyone entering the army. After serving in Transmeta for six years, he then joined the Open Source Development Labs (OSDL). He worked at 86open in the year 1997 to 1999 which is a binary file format for the Unix and its operating systems. This was after OSDL had collaborated with the Free Standards Group after which it then became Linus Foundation.
