Gustav Jacobsen was born on February 13, 1974, outside Copenhagen, Denmark. He went to the United States where he enrolled in Santa Cruz as an exchange student. This is where he first developed his talent in poker. In 1995, he returned to Denmark and signed up for the military for nine months. After completing his duties, he moved back again to the United States. He went to New York and played high-limit backgammon and gin games. Hansen officially began playing poker professionally in 1997. While he was still in US Santa Cruz, he played poker at the Ocean View Card Room in Santa Cruz, California.
