Grace Barnett Wing was born in October 1939, in Highland Park, Illinois. She was the daughter of Virginia Barnett and W. Wing. Both her parents were students at the University of Washington and both died in the 1980s. She has a brother named Chris and has spent much of her childhood in different cities in California.
She went to Palo Alto Senior High School and later switched to Castilleja High School. Following that she went to New York City’s Finch College and later got transferred to the University of Miami in Florida.
