The real name of Diplo is Thomas Wesley Pentz. Diplo is his nickname, shortened from his original DJ name Diplodocus. He was born in Tupelo, Mississippi, on November 10, 1978. His parents Barbara Jean and Thomas Pentz had German and English ancestry.
He grew up in Miami. At 19, he attended the University of Central Florida. Later he enrolled himself in the Temple University of Philadelphia where he began moonlighting as a DJ in parties.
