Joan Elise Blunden was born on 19th September in the year 1950, in Fair Oaks, California, the United States to Dr. Erle Murray Blunden and Gladyce Lorraine. Joan studied liberal arts at the California State University and joined the Universidad de Las Americas in Mexico City to study Spanish and anthropology.
Joan Lunden married television producer Michael A. Krauss in 1978 and converted to Judaism. The couple has 3 daughters, Jamie Beryl Krauss, Lindsay Leigh Krauss, and Sarah Emily Krauss. After getting a divorce from Michael in 1992, Lunden married Jeff Konigsberg in April 2000, and they have two sets of twins namely Jack, Kim, Kate, and Max born through a surrogate mother. In June 2014, Lunden publicly revealed that she is diagnosed with breast cancer on Good Morning America.

Joan Lunden got her first news anchor job at KCRA-TV, and she later started to produce and host the channel’s news broadcast and special programs. In 1975, she moved to WABC-TV and changed her name from Blunden to Lunden to avoid sounding similarities to “blunder.”
She became the fill-in host of Good Morning America in 1976 and became the show’s co-anchor in 1980. She continued to be the co-anchor of the show for 17 years until 1997, and so far she has covered 5 Olympic Games, two royal weddings have interviewed many famous personalities, and has traveled around 26 countries.
