Early Life & Biography
Reid Garrett Hoffman was born on August 5, 1967, in Palo Alto, California, the United States to William Parker Hoffman, Jr. and Deanna Ruth. He was very much interested in role-playing games during his childhood and got a job as an editor at the game company Chaosium when he was 12 years old. Hoffman attended The Putney School, and in 1990, he graduated in B.S Symbolic Systems and Cognitive Science from the Stanford University. He then completed M.St Philosophy at the Wolfson College in 1993 with a Marshall Scholarship.

Hoffman started his career as an intern at Inglenook in Napa Valley. In 1994, he moved to Apple Inc and was a member of the team that worked on eWorld. He then moved to Fujitsu, and in 1997, Reid co-founded the company SocialNet.com which focused on online dating.
Hoffman also was one among the board of Directors of PayPal while he was at SocialNet.com and in 2000 he became a full-time employee of PayPal enjoying the post of COO. In 2002 December, Hoffman co-founded LinkedIn with two of his colleagues from SocialNet and Fujitsu.
