Robert Kiyosaki was born as Robert Toru Kiyosaki on 8th April 1947 in Hilo, Hawaii, the US. His father, Ralph H. Kiyosaki (1919-1991) was an academic and educator. His mother, Marjorie O. Kiyosaki (1921-1971) was a registered nurse. Robert Kiyosaki has sisters named, Emi and Beth, and a brother named, John.

In 1965, Robert Kiyosaki graduated from Hilo High School. He earned his Bachelor’s of Science degree from the United States Merchant Marine Academy. He got congressional nominations from Senator Daniel K. Inouye for the U.S. Naval Academy and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy. In 1969, Robert Kiyosaki graduated with Bachelor’s of Science degree from the United States Merchant Marine Academy, New York. After graduating as a deck officer, Robert was commissioned as a 2nd Lt. in the U.S. Marine Corps.

Personal Life

Robert worked as a third mate with Standard Oil’s tanker office for six months. He served as the helicopter gunship pilot of the US Marine Corps during the Vietnam War (1972). He was awarded an Air Medal. While in the military, in 1973, he enrolled in 2-year MBA program at the University of Hawaii at Hilo. In June 1974, Robert was discharged from the Marine Corps.

Around late 1980s Robert Kiyosaki married his second wife, Kim. She had already invested in real estates in Phoenix.

Career, Awards & Nominations

Robert Kiyosaki was a salesman for Xerox until June 1978. In 1977, Robert began his Company, ‘Rippers’ for making nylon and Velcro wallets. Runner’s World, Gentleman’s Quarterly, Success Magazine, Newsweek, and Playboy featured Robert and his Company’s products. Yet, Rippers went bankrupt. Robert began another Company for licensing T-shirts for rock bands that went bankrupt (1980).

In 1985, Robert Kiyosaki co-founded the ‘Excellerated Learning Institute,’ a business education Company. It taught entrepreneurship, investments, and social responsibilities. This Company was sold in 1994.

In 1992, Robert Kiyosaki published his first book titled, ‘If You Want to Be Rich and Happy, Don’t Go To School.’ Robert encourages parents to teach their children about real estate investments instead of continuing in college.

In 1997, Robert established ‘Cashflow Technologies, Inc.,’ a business and financial education Company. This Company owns and runs ‘Rich Dad and Cashflow’ brands. Robert Kiyosaki also joined Amway to promote his book. In 2001, Robert Kiyosaki wrote the book titled ‘Rich Kid, Smart Kid’s for parents to teach children about financial concepts. He has programmed software games for adults and children. In 2002, Robert Kiyosaki bought silver mine in South America. He is interested in mining, coin dealings, and metal industry.

The series, Rich Dad, Poor dad has been translated into fifty-one languages and sold over 27 million copies worldwide. The book continues to be one of the Top 10 bestseller lists. His three popular books are ‘Rich Dad, Poor Dad,’ ‘Rich Dad’s Guide to Investing,’ and ‘Rich Dad’s Cashflow Quadrant.’ These reached no.1 on the lists of the New York Times, The Wall Street, and USA Today.
