Born as Joseph Riddick “Rick” Hendrick in 1949, he grew up in the farm of his family. He was born in Palmer Springs, Virginia to Mary and Joseph Hendrick, Jr. He was interested in car racing from a very young age and started to drag race when he was just 14. However, he initially wanted to become a baseball player.
He went to South Hill, Virginia’s Park View High School. Following that, he thought of having a co-op work program in Raleigh’s Westinghouse Electric Company. He has also been to the North Carolina State University. He then created the Hendrick Automotive Group, which was a used-car lot.
