Bernard Jean Étienne Arnault was born in March 1949, in Roubaix, France. He is the son of Jean Leon Arnault who owned the civil engineering company called Ferret-Savinel.
He completed his schooling from Lycée Maxence Van Der Meersch. Following that, he went to Palaiseau’s École Polytechnique and received a degree in engineering in 1971. He was highly ambitious from an early age and soon went on to join the company of his father.
In 1973, Bernard Arnault got married to Anne Dewavrin. They are the parents of Delphine and Antoine. The couple divorced in 1990. In 1991, he got married to Helene Mercier, who is a pianist from Canada. They have three sons, named Jean, Frederic, and Alexandre. Most of his children are associated with his brand. In 2013, he requested for Belgian nationality and decided to settle in Belgium.

After joining his father’s company, Bernard Arnault convinced his father to focus on real estate in 1976. This led to the formation of a new company called ‘Férinel’. In 1977, he became the CEO of the company and was later named as its president. In 1984, he acquired the luxury goods company Financière Agache. Later, he became the CEO and acquired Boussac Saint-Frères.
Arnault sold most of the assets of the company and only kept the brand Christian Dior. Following that, he went on to create, another luxury goods company LMVH. He currently serves as the CEO and chairman of the company. In 1988, he took control of Celine. This was followed by acquiring La Tribune, Kenzo, and Berluti.
