Arie Luyendyk Jr. was born on 18 September 1981 in The Netherlands to his parents Mieke and Arie Luyendyk. His father is a two-time Indianapolis 500 winner. When Luyendyk was three years of old his family shifted to the United States and later settled in Brookfield, Wisconsin. He has two younger twin brother Luca, Alec and a sister whose name is Maida.
Luyendyk is currently engaged to Lauren Burnham who was the runner-up of the television series “The Bachelor”. She has moved to Scottsdale to be with him.

Luyendyk started racing karts in the year 1992. At the age of sixteen, he joined the Sports Car Club of America to participate in the Formula Ford competition. Later Luyendyk competed in a number of American junior formulae including the U.S. Formula Ford 2000 Championship where he was among the top five.
At the 2001 SCCA National Championship Runoffs, he finished at number third. Luyendyk won the SCCA Southern Pacific divisional title as well as the Formula Dodge series.
He participated in the first three seasons of the “Indy Racing League’s Indy Pro Series”. In his entire Indy Racing League, Luyendyk has 1 win, 4 pole positions, and 24 top-five finishes.
