Early Life & Biography
Wayne Gretzky was born on January 26, 1961, in Brantford, Ontario, Canada to Walter Gretzky, a telephone technician, and Phyllis Leone. Walter has four younger siblings Kim, Keith, Glen, and Brent among whom Keith and Brent are also ice hockey players. Wayne started an interest for the game when he was two and began to skate when he was two years ten months. He scored 378 goals and gave 139 assists for the Brantford Nadrofsky Steelers when he was 10 and crossed 1000 when he was 13. When he was 16, he played for the Greyhounds in the Ontario Hockey League wearing his trademark jersey number 99.
