Early Life & Biography
Chad Javon Johnson was born on January 9, 1978, in Miami, Florida, the United States. He graduated from the Miami Beach Senior High School in 1997 and joined the Langston University. After a few months, Chad moved to the Santa Monica College and started playing American football along with Steve Smith, a future NFL player. Dennis Erickson recruited him, a football coach in 2000 to the Oregon State University to play for their team where he played alongside T.J. Houshmandzadeh, his future Cincinnati Bengals teammate.
Chad Johnson married TV personality Evelyn Lozada in July 2012 after dating her for two years. Their marriage came to an end just after a month after Johnson head-butted her. Chad was picked up by the Cincinnati Bengals in the 2001 NFL Draft to play in the National Football League. In 2003, he created a franchise record for the Bengals by receiving 1355 yards and went on to break it with 1432 yards in 2005.
Johnson signed an extension contract with the Bengals in 2006 which will have him with the team until 2011. He represented the team consecutively for eleven seasons earning six Pro Bowl selections and four All-Pro Selections with the team. He was also credited with the NFL receiving Yard Leader in 2006 and joined the 10,000 Receiving Yards Club.
In 2011, Chad was traded to the New England Patriots for $6.35 million on a 3-year contract. He could not emulate the performance he enjoyed with the Bengals, and in 2012 he was released from his contract to join the Miami Dolphins.
