In 2011, Ortiz knocked out Luis Andres Pineda, retaining his WBC FECARBOX heavyweight title and winning the vacant WBA Fedelatin heavyweight title which he defended against Henry Saenz the same year. In February 2012, Ortiz won the vacant WBC Latino and WBO Latino heavyweight titles against Epifanio Mendoza after Mendoza was disqualified for a low blow.

In October 2015, Luis won the vacant WBA interim heavyweight title against Matias Ariel Vidondo and retained it against Bryant Jennings in December.
