Chavez was born in 1962 on 12TH July in Sonora Mexico to Rodolfo Chavez. He hailed from a very humble background and did boxing to earn a living. When he was young, he suffered from abuse of alcohol and drug addiction in the middle of his career. Among the drugs that he was using included cocaine.
He practised amateur boxing since he was 16 years. He has undergone rehabilitation in various rehabs with the aim of dealing with the cocaine addiction. His father worked for the railroad, and together with his brothers and sisters, they grew up in the abandoned railroad.
Chavez has had some struggle with using drugs and alcohol abuse. The first time that he got drunk was after his fight with Edwin Rosario. Later, he would develop a habit of taking cocaine. His career became professional at seventeen years old and in his first match, he easily defeated Miguel Ruiz. After the above win, he decided to move to the Light Welterweight division. He got to be crowned as Champion after he won against Roger Mayweather. After two years, he defeated Hector Camacho, and his success story continued. Chavez has won a total of six world titles in three weight divisions.
